Course Description: The Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET) is the State of Illinois' responsible beverage seller/server program. Under the licensing and regulatory auspices of the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, BASSET is designed to encourage profitable, responsible, and legal alcohol sales and service.
After our lively class and your successfully completing the BASSET course final exam, you will be issued a temporary certificate. Your completion is submitted to the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC). The ILCC will issue and mail your official BASSET card to you at the address you provided during registration.
Your Illinois BASSET certification is valid for 3 years from the date of course completion unless you work in a municipality where re-certification is required more often. The BASSET certification card must be carried by the person whose name appears on the card and is the person selling and/or serving the alcoholic beverage.
Pursuant to Illinois law, Cook County the first mandatory county in Illinois for BASSET Certification. As of July 1st, 2015, all servers of alcohol and bouncers who check ID must now have their BASSET certification in order to work in Cook County which includes the City of Chicago. All new hires after July 1st. must have this certification within 120 days of being hired. The entire state of Illinois will have mandatory certification by July 1st, 2018.
